CHANSON D'AMOUR-LA MAMA

"Chanson D'Amour"/"I'll Be Your Woman" was the second single release in April 1982, by the music group La Mama.

"Chanson D'Amour" ("Love Song") is a popular song written by Wayne Shanklin.

In 1958, two competing versions of the song became popular. One was by Art and Dotty Todd. The other was by The Fontane Sisters. Both became popular in April of that year. The Art and Dotty version became their only U.S. chart hit single, peaking at number six.

In 1966, the song experienced a resurgence in popularity when it was released as a single by The Lettermen. This version became an easy listening hit in the United States.

"Chanson D'Amour" became a hit in Europe for the retro styled jazz vocal group The Manhattan Transfer on a recording produced by Richard Perry. It spent three weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart in March 1977 but failed to chart in the US. This version also hit the top 20 of Billboard's Easy Listening survey.
